Four Ways to Make Sure You Avoid These Newlywed Regrets
wedding planning tips
It’s easy to get caught up in linen choices and centerpieces, but when all is said and done, is it really worth it? Lucky for you, we’ve got the scoop on what newlyweds regret the most.
Online wedding registration company, Zola, surveyed 750 couples for Brides.com to find out what they would change about their big day if they could go back and do it all over again. Thanks to the newlyweds of 2017’s past, we put together our four top tips on how to make sure you don’t end up regretting your wedding spend.
DON’T FORGET YOU’RE THROWING A PARTY
Have you ever been to one of those weddings where you’re just sitting at your table just waiting for everyone to finally get up and dance and it never happens? Nobody wants that. You’ve worked hard with that Pinterest Updo and powering through those new heels all night; you deserve to dance! Hire a DJ or Band that is sure to get everyone out of their seats and on the dance floor. Those 750 couples ranked their musical selection as the third most important part of the night (just behind the venue and the photographer) and trust us, you don’t want to wake up the next day and have your first thought be ‘I just wish people danced!’
YOUR NEW FAVORITE SHOW TO BINGE: YOUR WEDDING
Unless you are planning on breaking out the projector once a year to go through your wedding photos while family are in town, you better invest in a videographer to capture your day. 25% of couples wish they spent more on a videographer! I know I know, who wants to spend more? Well, when your girlfriends are over and begging to see your wedding video and you pull it up and it’s so beautifully edited that they leave with tears in their eyes, you’ll thank us. What better way to capture the love in the room than a video where you can truly see how electric the day really was.
DITCH THE DECOR
Okay, we know this one is hard to stomach, but hear us out. Have you ever remembered all the little details of a friends wedding? Can you tell us what color napkins they had or what the chalkboard sign said on your way in or how their guest book looked? Probably not. You know what you do remember? The food, the booze, and the band. 22% of couples said they wish they spent less on flowers and decor. Ambiance is definitely important and a great way to set the mood for your event. When looking for a venue, which surveyors deemed the #1 most important piece of the wedding, look for a place that already has its own built-in ambiance! If a venue is full of life, it doesn’t need all those extras. Let the room speak for itself. After all, there’s a reason you picked it.
AFTER THE PARTY IS THE…AFTER PARTY?
Congrats, you’re married!! Now what? Everyone is in town and ready to get down, so make sure to have a plan for where guests should head to keep your night buzzing. Surprisingly, the after party was deemed the 7th most important part of the day! Don’t worry, you don’t have to spend a penny. Plan for a local bar people can head to or even let the hotel bar know you’ll be coming by with a big crowd. People love to celebrate your love, so let them! Want to be their favorite wedding of the year? Have pizzas delivered to make sure everyone has the sustenance to keep the night going!
